Harrison House, 1901

Harrison House, circa 1901The Harrison House is our original hotel facility and has a special place in the hearts of many people who have wonderful memories from staying in this lovely, Victorian-era hotel over the years. Originally built in 1884, it served as a rural Allegheny Mountain resort until OCF purchased it in 1978 and turned it into a retreat and conference center. When you step inside the Harrison House, you take a step back in history to a simpler time, when the pace of life wasn’t as hectic and just rocking on the porch with a cool glass of lemonade on a summer afternoon with friends was something to look forward to.

Each guest room is uniquely decorated, creating a charming atmosphere and experience for everyone who stays in the Harrison House. In all, there are 37 guest rooms giving us a capacity for 80 guests. While the facility was built in 1884, we have been hard at work maintaining and renovating it to ensure guests are comfortable and enjoy their stay. In the past few years, we have given the exterior a fresh coat of paint (2017), installed new energy-efficient windows throughout (2017), renovated every bathroom with new floors, tubs, toilets, and showers (2016), installed new carpet in all the common areas and some bedrooms (2015), replaced and rebuilt the front wrap-around porch (2014) and replaced the roof (2014).

The main floor of the Harrison House includes a lovely dining room capable of seating 80 comfortably. There is a lovely living room complete with a cozy fireplace and plenty of seats, which provides a great gathering and meeting area. Be sure to check out our museum as well, which provides great information on the history of White Sulphur Springs, OCF, the Harrison House, and the surrounding Milligans Cove area. While all of those things are great, the beautiful wrap-around front porch with all of its rocking chairs is probably our guests’ most favorite thing about the glorious old Harrison House.

The Harrison House basement includes the Johnson Room, which is the main conference and meeting room in the hotel. It comfortably seats up to 80 and has a screen and projector capability to facilitate presentations. The fireplace provides extra warmth and ambience, and it is the perfect space to hold a meeting, worship service, or workshop. The kitchen in the Harrison House has served thousands of meals over the years and is still functional for guest rental use. If your group would be interested in cooking and providing your own meals, please inquire about that possibility.
